The Organization
Burning Coal Theatre (BCT), located in the Oakwood area of Raleigh, NC, is seeking a part-time Development and Marketing Director. Burning Coal produces literate, visceral, affecting theatre that is experienced, not simply seen. Founded in 1997, we emphasize works that are felt and experienced viscerally, unlike more traditional, linear plays where audiences are most often asked to observe without participating.
The newly created Development and Marketing Director is a part-time 25-30 hours per week position who will work with founding Artistic Director Jerry Davis and other team members. As BCT grows, this position will have a high impact on the organization and be responsible to create, develop and build the role.
The Candidate
The successful candidate will have 2-3 years paid experience with development in the arts, communications, or non-profit sectors, and/or a solid foundation in development and fundraising through education and/or experience.
The Position
Responsibilities:
- Initiate strategic fundraising programs and implementation
- Develop, coordinate and lead fundraising and awareness campaigns
- Cultivate existing and prospective donors and sponsors
- Participate in advocacy, outreach and networking events
- Create marketing and outreach strategies and materials to support BCT programs and fundraising
- Coordinate with related organizations and potential advocacy partners for collaboration opportunities
- Build partnerships within the business world and community that align with our mission and work
- Coordinate Gala Committee for bi-annual fundraiser
- Institute operational systems with customer relationship management (CRM) for resource management related to fundraising and campaigns
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, board members, volunteers, community groups and partners
- Some evening and weekend work during fundraising events and in conjunction with BCT productions
Knowledge/Skills Required:
- Strong fundraising skills, including successful experience working with individual, foundation, and corporate donors
- Goal-oriented
- High level of initiative and ability to manage multiple programs and projects
- Outstanding customer service, planning, personal initiative and interpersonal relationship skills
- Effective interpersonal and written communication skills
- Organized with strong computer skills
- Work independently as well as with other team members
- Knowledge of theatre and/or the arts is a plus
- Degree preferred
