Marbles Kids Museum is a vibrant and growing non-profit children’s museum and IMAX Theatre in downtown Raleigh with over 550,000 annual visitors. Currently celebrating our first five years of operations, Marbles popularity has increased steadily and our continued growth is fueled by community investment and creative partnerships. The organizational culture of Marbles Kids Museum is playful and hard-working, led by individuals passionate about our mission. Marbles seeks an energetic, experienced professional to fill the position of Development Coordinator on March 1, 2013.

The Development Coordinator is a full time position on the External Affairs Team responsible for managing grants and individual fundraising and providing critical support for corporate fundraising and special events. An integral part of a small fundraising team, the Development Coordinator reports to the Director of Development and works with the entire Marbles Team to develop strong grant proposals, implement successful fundraising events and engage new individual and corporate donors on an annual basis. This position coordinates the day-to-day development operations of the organization, including managing the donor database, overseeing the annual campaign, providing donor relations support, cultivating and maintaining corporate giving and partnerships, and planning events and initiatives for increasing awareness and funding.

The Development Coordinator plays a key role in the organization, requiring an individual with a confident, polished and professional approach to fundraising. The successful candidate must be approachable, personable and sincere with a strong sense of integrity and respect for confidentiality. In addition, the successful candidate will have a creative spirit to infuse new ideas and act on opportunities as they arise. The Candidate will thrive in a dynamic and creative work environment that offers flexibility on how tasks are prioritized and approached. This person must understand or be willing to learn the trends and strategies for successful fundraising and have strong organizational skills and attention to detail. The ability to manage multiple priorities with tight timelines and limited resources is essential.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage Grants process including research, writing and reporting on all grant activity for museum with goal of growing foundation income significantly over next 5 years for programs, exhibits and major capital renovations
  • Coordinate Annual Fund campaign including direct mail, website, social media, brochure and onsite messaging
  • Coordinate Corporate Membership program from prospect identification to direct mail and ongoing cultivation and stewardship
  • Coordinate with Special Events Team on fundraising details of three annual Fundraising Events including sponsorship, raffle/auction items and ticket sales
  • Support proposal writing, relationship building and ongoing stewardship of gifts
  • Assist President and Development Director in key stakeholder relations including Board communications, Board and Executive Committee meeting minutes, Board development
  • Oversee donor stewardship including acknowledgement letters, benefits fulfillment, and recognition implementation. Respond to and appropriately follow through with donor questions and needs
  • Manage communications and meeting schedule for Marblettes volunteers and Imagination Ball Host Committee

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, focus on communication, writing or nonprofit management a plus
  • 3-5 years of progressive fundraising or related experience
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, ability to multi-task and prioritize work flow
  • Impeccable verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, familiarity with Raiser’s Edge donor management software preferred
  • Self-motivated with ability to work well independently and as part of a team
  • Flexibility, creativity and playful attitude
  • Genuine interest in advancing the mission of Marbles to inspire imagination, discovery and learning through extraordinary adventure in play
