Associated Artists of Winston-Salem Welcomes New Executive Director
(April 15, 2011 - Winston-Salem, NC) - In early May, Associated Artists of Winston-Salem will welcome Rosemary Martin as its new Executive Director. This new role is familiar territory for Martin, who led the organization in the 1990s before moving on to other nonprofit positions around the state, including her most recent stint as Development Officer at the prestigious Mint Museum in Charlotte.
Martin's background and education in the arts, plus her experience and credentials in fundraising and grant writing mesh well with AAWS's mission of supporting local artists by giving art a place to be seen. She will be charged with helping expand the organization's outreach to new audiences, strengthening ties to individual donors and corporate sponsors, and expansion of the organization's events, exhibits, and programs for both beginning and experienced artists.
Martin will also oversee upcoming renovations to the AAWS Gallery at 4th and Cherry Streets. The space is being opened up dramatically to allow more visibility for the work on display and clear access to the gift shop which houses a variety of art and gift items, all from local artists.
"We are so fortunate to have found a new director with Rosemary's talents," said Allison Norton-Rimron, board president for AAWS. "She will bring a seasoned approach, as well as fresh ideas to us at such a pivotal time in our organization's evolution and growth. We have a tremendous location downtown and a vibrant member organization and she can help us showcase both in new ways."
Martin, a Wake Forest University graduate, served as Executive Director of AAWS from 1991 through 1995 when it was a smaller group situated in the former Sawtooth Building (now the Milton Rhodes Center for the Arts). "I am thrilled to return to my hometown of Winston-Salem and Associated Artists," said Martin. "I'm a huge fan of this community and you can't help but be energized when you stroll downtown these days. This new role with AAWS is an opportunity I truly relish."
Founded in 1956, Associated Artists is a membership organization with over 500 members and patrons. It was founded on the idea that artists’ work must be exhibited in order to be truly appreciated. The AAWS office and gallery are open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., except on holiday weekends.
