The Organization

Headquartered in Washington, DC, the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate is a well-established worldwide congregation of religious men with an extensive history. Beginning in 1816, Fr. Eugene de Mazenod organized a group of priests to work with the poor in France; the group received papal approval as a Religious Congregation under the patronage of Mary Immaculate in 1826. Today, over 4,000 Oblate priests and brothers work in 68 countries on every continent.

In 1999, the five Oblate Provinces in the US came together to form the United States Province (USP). The “business” phase of this reconfiguration, currently known as the Renewal of Mission Structures (RMS) project, was begun in 2006. By reducing redundancies of effort, this phase will strengthen and focus all activities that support the USP’s ministry objectives as filtered through the key concepts of stewardship, effectiveness and efficiency, accountability and risk management. Through the work on the RMS project, the Oblate Missionary Society, Inc. was established in 2007.

The Oblate Missionary Society, Inc. is a national fundraising organization supporting the works of the USP in the US and around the world. The mission of OMSI fundraising is to provide funds to support the ministry goals of the Province within the context of the Gospel message. As ministry needs continue to grow, the USP has identified increasing the reliance on active fundraising, within the culture of collaboration, cooperation and integrity, as a high priority for the organization.

OMSI has an annual budget of $35 million and receives support from individual, planned giving and institutional giving sources.
