Catholic Diocese of Raleigh
Director of Stewardship and Institutional Advancement
Raleigh, NC
The Organization
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Raleigh’s mission is to serve Catholic parishes, schools, institutions, and ministries so that they may effectively carry out their missions; strive to meet the needs of all the People of God, laity, Religious and clergy, so that they may faithfully live their vocations; and develop resources, provide training, planning, and consultation where and when needed:
- To support the continued growth of strong faith communities;
- To encourage the development of Church leadership -- lay, ordained and Religious;
- To eradicate the causes of division and polarization;
- To advocate the worth and dignity of the human person at all stages of life;
- To promote greater social justice in the cause of peace;
- To collaborate with our Catholic brothers and sisters, all believers, and all people of good will everywhere who seek to bring about God's Kingdom here on earth.
The Diocese includes 54 counties of eastern North Carolina, covering just over 32,000 miles, and is divided into eight deaneries with a total of96 parishes, missions and stations and six centers for campus ministry. Registered Catholics number over 200,000 and comprise approximately 5% of the total population; in the past 10 years, the number of Catholics in North Carolina has increased 60%. This data does not include an equally large number of Hispanic parishioners who often do not formally register with a parish. Ninety-five percent of our Catholic population was not born in North Carolina.
On June 8, 2006, Pope Benedict XVI named Bishop Michael Burbidge the fifth Bishop of the Diocese of Raleigh; he was installed in Raleigh on August 4, 2006. Bishop Burbidge is very outgoing and is committed to using all tools to communicate the message of the Diocese. He maintains a strong commitment to fostering vocations to the Priesthood and Religious Life. Bishop Burbidge has continued the meaningful work of previous administrations and is implementing plans to strengthen the Diocese and its parishes, schools, and campus ministries. These plans include a multi-faceted approach to development, described by the Diocese as very important for the way it enables the mission of the Church by sustaining and expanding the many ministries to which we are committed for the building of His Kingdom.
