A Message from our President

Dear Colleague,

I was reminded last week, when I said, “Wow, November flew by fast. Where did the month go?”, that I said the same thing at the end of October…and September…and likely August, too. Had the other person not made their comment causing me to reflect more on what I said, I probably would have added that the year has flown quickly as well. Looking back, it has been a full year, with activities and people and places filling up each season. And, while in the middle of it all, at times it certainly didn’t seem to go fast. But, as we approach the final months, the rough, slow spots are smoothed over and blur with the frenetic moments, and it becomes a softer blend of ebbs and flows.

That isn’t to say that there haven’t been incredible highlights, painful challenges, and lasting memories. It’s just that as the calendar pages become fewer and the weather turns colder, we become more reflective on our progress to-date and ramp up efforts to finish the year well, regardless of what has happened leading up to now. We are setting the tone for the upcoming cycle. What will we learn from this year and what will we carry over into next?

With this self-assessment in mind, we are also asking our readers to respond to a one-question survey. This year-end survey has become a tradition for us, and is a nice way to think about what we have accomplished and what will guide us moving forward. So, please share with us 3 lessons that you would share with a younger colleague hoping to move into your position. We’ll include your responses in the January ezine.
