High Point, NC

OUR STORY

Founded in 2014, Greater High Point Food Alliance (GHPFA) was formed in response to data indicating that the Greensboro-High Point, NC area was number one in the nation in food hardship. A group of concerned citizens from the business sector, academia, nonprofit organizations, community activists, and neighbors experiencing food insecurity joined forces to address the issue in a systematic, strategic way. Since then, GHPFA and its partners have made significant progress in alleviating food insecurity in High Point through coordinated efforts, aligned investments, and policy change.

Mission

GHPFA strives to coordinate and improve the effectiveness of entities in Greater High Point focused on alleviating hunger by creating and executing citywide and neighborhood-focused initiatives to develop more just and sustainable food systems.

OUR STRATEGY

First, by using a community-centered approach, we work closely with community members and leaders to empower each other to proactively seek solutions, and foster a culture where individuals are encouraged to voice their concerns, ideas, and collaborate on neighborhood improvements – and make informed decisions for themselves and their families. Secondly, unity within the community is paramount for effective issue resolution. The GHPFA aims to facilitate collective discussions and collaborative planning sessions to address community challenges. We believe that residents are the most valuable asset of our community.

Ultimately, we strive to transition from a charitable approach to a developmental model, promoting self-sufficiency among community members. This shift entails empowering individuals to take responsibility for their well-being and fostering self-reliance. By encouraging individuals to contribute to their community and equipping them with the necessary resources, we aim to facilitate sustainable growth and development.
